How important is protective equipment for motorcyclists?

The importance to paying attention while riding

  • Maintain focus and avoid lapses in judgment while riding a motorcycle. Even with proper gear, accidents can occur due to lack of bodily protection, making it crucial to avoid accidents and ensure safety.
  • Every time you get on your motorcycle, always sit there for a few seconds thinking about the fact that you have now become invisible and that no other drivers can see you. It is 100% your responsibility to anticipate everything other drivers could possibly do to endanger you and be ready to avoid them.
  • Focus on your riding, traffic patterns, weather, road surfaces, and potential hazards. Play “what if” games at every hazard, and try to stop where you have the maximum escape route. In rural areas, assume a farmer is pulling a tractor across the road slowly. Never ride too fast to stop on visible pavement.
  • Part of the enjoyment and excitement about motorcycle riding is this game of hyper attention and keeping yourself safe against all conceivable hazards. If you can’t get excited about this part of motorcycling, then stick to cars
